Lenovo ThinkPad P1 Gen 9 with 672 TOPS AI, Panther Lake

Lenovo has officially introduced the ThinkPad P1 Gen 9, its latest high-end mobile workstation built for professionals who need serious performance. This new model runs on Intel’s upcoming Core Ultra processors based on the Panther Lake platform and brings a strong focus on on-device AI.

This update arrived earlier than expected. Lenovo appears to be picking up the pace, probably because AI hardware is advancing quickly and businesses need systems that can keep up.

The ThinkPad P1 Gen 9 keeps the same overall design, but the real changes are inside. It is powered by Intel’s next-generation Core Ultra chips and paired with NVIDIA RTX PRO Blackwell laptop GPUs. These upgrades are aimed at improving performance, efficiency, and long-term usability for demanding workloads.

AI performance is one of the standout features of this laptop. It can push up to 672 TOPS in total, including 180 TOPS from the CPU and up to 572 TOPS from the GPU. Simply put, it’s powerful enough to handle heavy AI tasks like real-time rendering, advanced simulations, and even local AI workloads without depending much on the cloud.

Lenovo has introduced LPCAMM2 RAM in this model, supporting up to 96GB of LPDDR5x. Unlike many modern laptops, this memory is not soldered. Users can replace or upgrade it later, which is a big advantage for professionals who want their machine to last longer.

The system uses NVIDIA RTX PRO 2000 Blackwell GPUs with GDDR7 memory, along with integrated Intel Arc Pro graphics. While GPU performance sees steady improvement, the bigger gain comes from better AI acceleration and overall system efficiency.

The ThinkPad P1 Gen 9 supports up to 8TB of PCIe Gen5 NVMe SSD storage. It also includes modern features like Thunderbolt 5, Wi-Fi 7, and optional 5G. These upgrades make it easier to handle large files and stay connected in fast-paced work environments.

The laptop uses a premium aluminum chassis and stays relatively lightweight for a workstation. It comes with a 16-inch display, with options going up to a 3.2K OLED panel. This display supports HDR, high brightness, and up to a 120Hz refresh rate, making it suitable for creative work and detailed visuals.

One thing that stands out is how quickly this model has arrived after the previous version. This suggests Lenovo is speeding up its release cycle to keep up with new processors and AI developments.

Almost all the brands are increasingly moving toward AI-powered PCs that can run tasks locally, cutting down on cloud dependency and offering better speed, privacy, and reliability.

Lenovo plans to roll out the ThinkPad P1 Gen 9 in select markets starting June 2026, but pricing hasn’t been revealed yet. With its combination of solid AI performance, upgradeable memory, and modern connectivity, it’s clearly built for professionals who want power and flexibility in one device.
