Iiyama Launches 899g Panther Lake Laptop with Intel Core Ultra CPUs and OLED Display

Japanese PC company UNITCOM has introduced a new iiyama PC laptop powered by Intel’s upcoming Panther Lake platform. The new model weighs as little as 899 grams, while some configurations reportedly drop close to 830 grams. That makes it one of the lightest full-size Intel laptops announced this year.

The laptop includes Intel Core Ultra 7 355 and Core Ultra 5 325 processor options, a 16.9mm thin chassis, a 1920 x 1200 OLED display, Wi-Fi 7 support, facial recognition through Windows Hello, and dual Thunderbolt 4 ports. The display also covers 100% of the DCI-P3 color range, which is commonly used in premium laptops focused on media and creative work.

Intel has not fully revealed Panther Lake architecture details yet, but the platform is expected to become one of the company’s main mobile CPU families for next-generation AI PCs. Intel is also expected to continue using a modular chip design similar to recent Core Ultra processors, although full technical details have not been officially confirmed.

The launch arrives at a time when laptop makers are focusing heavily on thinner AI-ready Windows systems. Companies are trying to improve battery life, local AI processing, and portability as more software begins using AI features directly on the device. Intel’s newer Core Ultra platforms already include NPUs, also known as Neural Processing Units, which help process AI tasks with lower power usage.

The new iiyama model appears aimed at users who travel frequently, work remotely, or need a lightweight office laptop with modern connectivity. The inclusion of USB-A and HDMI ports is important because many compact laptops now rely mostly on USB-C connections and adapters.

Sub-1kg laptops are difficult to engineer because thinner chassis leave less room for batteries, cooling systems, and motherboard layouts. Manufacturers often reduce port selection or sustained performance to lower weight, which makes power management and thermal control especially important in this category.

Battery size has not been revealed yet, and this will likely become one of the most important details once reviews appear. Real-world battery life in ultralight laptops depends heavily on display power usage, cooling efficiency, processor tuning, and battery capacity.

Cooling information also remains unknown. Thin laptops usually operate under tighter thermal limits than larger notebooks, so long-term sustained performance can vary significantly even when systems use similar processors.

Graphics details have not been officially confirmed either. Intel’s recent Core Ultra platforms improved integrated graphics performance for media playback, video editing, streaming, and casual gaming, but the exact GPU configuration inside this model is still unclear.

The memory type has also not been confirmed. The laptop will likely use LPDDR5X memory based on current ultralight laptop trends, though UNITCOM has not officially disclosed specifications.

Pricing in Japan starts at 219,800 yen for the Core Ultra 5 model with 16GB memory and 500GB storage. The higher-end Core Ultra 7 version with 32GB memory and 500GB storage is priced at 259,800 yen. That converts to roughly $1,500 and $1,800 depending on exchange rates.

Availability outside Japan has not been announced. Many iiyama PC systems remain limited to the Japanese market, although some products occasionally appear internationally through resellers.

More Panther Lake laptops are expected later this year as Intel expands its next-generation mobile lineup. The biggest questions now are battery life, graphics performance, cooling behavior, and how Panther Lake compares against other modern AI-focused laptop platforms in real-world use.
