ASUS has confirmed that the ROG Strix G18 (2026) is heading to global markets, bringing an updated 18-inch gaming platform built around Intel’s Core Ultra 9 290HX Plus and NVIDIA’s RTX 50-series laptop GPUs, similar to other high-performance systems like the ASUS TUF Gaming A14.
All models use the same processor, but the graphics card changes depending on the version, starting from RTX 5060 up to RTX 5080. This means you get the same base system, with different levels of performance.
At the top end, the RTX 5080 model is tuned up to 175W, placing it close to other systems using the RTX 50 Ultra series graphics cards, which is already near the upper range for laptop GPUs in this class. With manual performance settings enabled, total system power can reach around 255W. That puts the Strix G18 alongside other high-power 18-inch gaming systems rather than thinner performance-focused machines.
Display Options
The 18-inch panel sticks with a 2560 × 1600 resolution and a 16:10 aspect ratio, which has become standard for larger gaming laptops.
Buyers can choose between two panel types. The base option is a 300Hz IPS display aimed at competitive gaming, where refresh rate matters most. Higher-end models switch to a 240Hz Mini LED panel, trading a bit of refresh rate for significantly higher brightness and contrast.
Peak brightness on the Mini LED version can reach around 1600 nits in supported scenarios, which is a noticeable jump over typical IPS panels. Both options cover the full DCI-P3 color space and are tuned for fast response times.
G-Sync support is included, along with a MUX switch and Advanced Optimus, allowing the system to switch between integrated and discrete graphics depending on workload.
CPU and GPU
The laptop runs on Intel’s Core Ultra 9 290HX Plus, a 24-core processor capable of boosting up to 5.5GHz, which is a part of the newer Core Ultra lineup used in high-performance laptops. Alongside CPU performance, there’s also an integrated NPU rated at up to 13 TOPS, aimed at handling lighter AI workloads directly on the device.
Graphics configurations scale across the RTX 50-series lineup:
- RTX 5060 with 8GB GDDR7
- RTX 5070 with 8GB GDDR7
- RTX 5070 Ti with 12GB GDDR7
- RTX 5080 with 16GB GDDR7
This range allows the same chassis to cover everything from mid-tier gaming setups to high-end configurations without changing the overall design.

Cooling System

Handling that level of power requires a more aggressive cooling setup. ASUS uses its ROG Intelligent Cooling design here, built around a tri-fan layout, a full-width heatsink, and an end-to-end vapor chamber.
Asus’s goal is straightforward with this laptop: keep performance stable under sustained load. This matters more on higher-end GPU variants, where power draw stays elevated for longer periods during gaming or rendering tasks.
Memory and Storage
Memory support goes up to 64GB of DDR5-5600, installed through two SO-DIMM slots. That means upgrades are still possible, which is not always guaranteed in this category.
For storage, it uses PCIe Gen4 SSDs and comes with two M.2 slots. ASUS has also made upgrades easier this time, as the bottom panel can be opened without tools, so you don’t have to deal with multiple screws.
Connectivity and Ports
Wireless connectivity includes Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4.
On the wired side, the laptop includes HDMI 2.1, multiple USB Type-A and Type-C ports, and an RJ45 Ethernet port. Thunderbolt support is present as well, with higher-end configurations moving up to Thunderbolt 5.
That gives enough flexibility for external displays, fast storage, and high-speed peripherals without relying heavily on adapters.
Design, Battery, and Build
The overall form factor remains in line with other 18-inch gaming laptops. Weight comes in at around 7.05 lbs (3.2 kg), so this is still very much a desk-oriented system rather than something designed for frequent travel.
A 90Wh battery is included across all configurations. Power adapters vary depending on the GPU, with higher-end models using up to 380W units.

What’s New in the 2026 Model
Compared to the 2025 model, this version comes with a few updates:
- 300Hz IPS panel now standard across base models
- Higher GPU power tuning, reaching up to 175W on RTX 5080
- Updated cooling design for sustained performance
- Tool-less access for RAM and storage upgrades
- Transition to Intel Core Ultra HX Plus platform
