Dareu A98 Pro Keyboard Launches With Rapid Trigger

Dareu has launched the A98 Pro RT Edition mechanical keyboard in China with a starting price of 369 yuan. The keyboard is designed for gamers and mechanical keyboard users who want faster key response while still using a traditional mechanical switch platform. The new model introduces Rapid Trigger support, a feature that has become popular in competitive gaming keyboards because it allows keys to reset faster during repeated inputs.

Rapid Trigger changes how keys behave when they are released. On a normal mechanical keyboard, a key must move past a fixed reset point before the next press can register. This design works well for typing but can slow repeated movements during fast gameplay. Rapid Trigger removes the fixed reset point and allows the key to activate again as soon as it starts moving upward. This can help players react faster in games that require quick movement adjustments.

Instead of using magnetic or analog switches, Dareu uses a redesigned mechanical switch system called RT switches. These switches use a dual stationary contact and a single active contact design. The mechanism allows the switch to change between two travel distances while enabling rapid actuation and disconnection as the key moves. The switches can also operate in a single travel mode for users who prefer a more traditional mechanical feel.

One advantage of this approach is compatibility with the standard mechanical keyboard ecosystem. The keyboard includes a hot swappable PCB that supports common 2 pin mechanical switches. Users can remove the installed switches and replace them with other mechanical switches without soldering. This allows people to customize the typing feel based on their preference.

The keyboard uses a compact 98 key layout. This layout keeps the number pad but reduces the overall width compared with a full size keyboard. Many users prefer this layout because it saves desk space while still keeping the number pad for productivity tasks.

The internal design of the keyboard follows many trends from the mechanical keyboard enthusiast community. The A98 Pro RT Edition uses a gasket mount structure. In this design, the typing plate is isolated from the outer case using flexible materials. This helps reduce vibration and can create a softer typing feel compared with rigid mounting designs.

Inside the keyboard, Dareu uses a 1.2mm thick FR4 single key slotted PCB along with a polymer positioning plate. The keyboard also includes a five layer sound absorbing structure designed to reduce resonance and improve typing acoustics. These layers help control the sound produced when keys are pressed.

FR4 PCBs are widely used in enthusiast mechanical keyboards. The fiberglass material provides structural strength while still allowing controlled flexibility. When combined with a gasket mount and internal dampening layers, the keyboard can produce a quieter and more refined typing sound compared with simpler keyboard designs.

The keyboard includes RGB lighting with spherical LED emitters that focus light more efficiently across the keycaps. Lighting effects can be customized through software. The keyboard uses PBT double shot keycaps, which are known for durability and resistance to wear during long term use.

The keyboard supports N key rollover, which allows many keys to be pressed at the same time without input errors. This feature is important in gaming situations where multiple keys may be pressed quickly during fast movements.

Wireless operation is supported through both 2.4GHz and Bluetooth connections. The keyboard can also operate through a wired USB C connection. This tri mode connectivity allows the keyboard to switch between different devices such as desktop computers, laptops, tablets, and smartphones.

Battery capacity is one of the major highlights of the keyboard. The A98 Pro RT Edition includes a large 8000mAh battery, which is larger than many wireless mechanical keyboards in the same category. A larger battery helps support wireless performance and RGB lighting without requiring frequent charging.

Usage ModeEstimated Battery Life
RGB Lighting OffAround 1 month
RGB Lighting OnAround 1 week

Large batteries are useful in wireless gaming keyboards because wireless communication and lighting effects can increase power usage. A higher capacity battery allows the keyboard to run longer between charges.

Rapid Trigger technology has become important for competitive gaming because it allows faster input resets during movement. In many competitive games, players repeatedly press and release movement keys to control positioning. When keys reset faster, players can make movement corrections more quickly.

Many keyboards that support Rapid Trigger use analog sensors to measure the distance a key travels. Dareu uses a different approach by adjusting the mechanical contact system inside the switch. This allows the keyboard to provide rapid reset behavior while still using standard mechanical switch technology.

Magnetic analog switchesDetect continuous key travel distance and allow adjustable actuation
Optical switchesDetect key presses using light sensors
Mechanical RT switchesUse contact design to enable faster reset behavior

The keyboard combines features from both enthusiast keyboards and gaming keyboards. Enthusiast keyboards focus on typing feel, customization, and acoustic tuning. Gaming keyboards focus on speed and responsiveness. By combining Rapid Trigger support with hot swappable switches and a gasket mounted structure, the A98 Pro RT Edition attempts to serve both types of users.

Some performance details have not yet been confirmed. The manufacturer has not released detailed information about the keyboard’s polling rate or input latency. These measurements are often used by competitive players to evaluate gaming performance.

The Dareu A98 Pro RT Edition launched in China in early March with a starting price of 369 yuan. Global availability has not yet been confirmed. If the keyboard launches internationally at a similar price, it could become one of the more affordable keyboards offering Rapid Trigger functionality while still supporting the customization features that mechanical keyboard users expect.
