Keychron K1 Ultra 8K is a new low-profile tenkeyless (TKL) mechanical keyboard featuring an 8,000 Hz polling rate, tri-mode connectivity, and a claimed battery life of up to 490 hours. The new model is aimed at gamers who want lower input latency and users looking for a space-saving keyboard without giving up wireless connectivity or customization.
Compared to the recently announced full-size K5 Ultra, the K1 Ultra 8K adopts a TKL layout that leaves more room on the desk while keeping dedicated function keys. It retains many of the same features, including natural rosewood side panels, an ABS plastic chassis reinforced with aluminum rails, and a slim design with an approximately 20 mm front height.
The keyboard uses 11.9 mm low-profile mechanical switches, providing a shorter key travel than traditional mechanical keyboards. It also includes a programmable rotary knob that controls volume by default and can be reassigned to other functions through the Keychron Launcher.
An 8,000 Hz polling rate is supported by the K1 Ultra 8K in both wired USB and 2.4 GHz wireless modes. Although the majority of gaming keyboards have a polling rate of 1,000 Hz, a higher rate enables the keyboard to transmit input data to the computer more often, which helps minimise input latency in applications that need responsiveness, such as fast-paced games.
Support for Bluetooth 5.2, 2.4GHz wireless, and wired USB gives the K1 Ultra 8K multiple connectivity options. It can pair with up to three Bluetooth devices at the same time, allowing users to switch between laptops, tablets, and other compatible devices without reconnecting.
A 2,600 mAh battery powers the K1 Ultra 8K. Keychron claims it can deliver up to 490 hours of use with the RGB lighting turned off, even at the maximum 8,000Hz polling rate. The company attributes the long battery life to its open-source ZMK firmware, which is designed to improve wireless efficiency while supporting advanced customization features.
Buyers can choose from three factory-installed Keychron Milk POM low-profile mechanical switch options. The Red switch offers a linear feel, the Brown switch provides tactile feedback, and the Banana switch delivers a stronger tactile response.
The keyboard also features a hot-swappable PCB, allowing compatible switches to be replaced without soldering. To reduce typing noise, Keychron uses several sound-dampening materials, including IXPE foam, EPDM foam, PET film, and bottom-case acoustic foam.
Double-shot PBT keycaps, per-key RGB lighting with over 22 lighting effects, customisable RGB zones, macro support, key remapping, and firmware settings via the Keychron Launcher web software are all included with the K1 Ultra 8K. Additionally, the program has an AI-assisted setting capability that is presently in beta.
Windows and macOS keycaps are included in the box, making it easy to switch between the two operating systems without changing keyboards. Priced at $109.99, the Keychron K1 Ultra 8K combines a compact TKL layout with tri-mode connectivity, hot-swappable switches, long battery life, and extensive customization for both gaming and everyday use.
