Gigabyte’s latest flagship motherboard is built for overclockers who want to push DDR5 memory to the limit, following other recent launches like the Gigabyte Z890 AORUS Elite Eagle WiFi7 Plus. The new Z890 AORUS TACHYON DUO X ICE is designed for Intel Core Ultra 200S desktop processors and supports memory speeds up to DDR5-10400.
The board uses a two-slot DDR5 layout instead of the more common four-slot design, helping deliver cleaner memory signals for better overclocking. Gigabyte says the board supports up to 256GB of memory and can also run newer CQDIMM modules at speeds up to 8000 MT/s. The company’s new D5 DUO X memory design is built to improve DDR5 tuning and stability at higher speeds, also we have seen in recent advances seen in AMD EXPO 1.20 DDR5 support updates.
Power delivery comes from an 18+1+2 digital VRM setup. The main CPU section uses 18 phases rated at 110A, while VCCGT and VCCSA phases are rated at 80A. Cooling is handled by large VRM heatsinks, direct-touch heatpipes, and extended thermal guards over the M.2 slots.
Gigabyte also includes a full set of onboard tools for overclocking. Features include LN2 Mode, Cold Reset, LIMP Mode, OC Trigger, OC Ignition, BIOS switch, voltage read points, and onboard clock control buttons. Separate PS/2 keyboard and mouse ports are also available for legacy overclocking setups.
Expansion includes one PCIe 5.0 x16 slot and a second PCIe 5.0 x8 slot, matching high-end layouts found on boards like the MSI MAG B850M Gaming Pro Max WiFi motherboard. When both are used, the main slot drops to x8 bandwidth. Storage support includes four M.2 slots, with one PCIe 5.0 slot, plus four SATA ports.
Connectivity options include Thunderbolt 4, USB 3.2 Gen 2×2 Type-C, 5Gb Ethernet, and Wi-Fi 7 with Bluetooth 5.4. Audio is powered by the Realtek ALC1220 codec paired with high-end audio capacitors.

Gigabyte has moved from a 10-layer PCB on the earlier TACHYON ICE to an 8-layer design on this model while adding its new D5 DUO X memory layout for better DDR5 and CQDIMM tuning.
Pricing has not been announced yet, but the motherboard is already listed on Gigabyte’s official website ahead of retail release.
