Intel Core 7 245HX Launches as New 14-Core Non-Ultra Arrow Lake-HX CPU

Intel has quietly expanded its mobile processor lineup with the Core 7 245HX, a new 14-core Arrow Lake-HX chip that arrives without Core Ultra branding, following other recent Arrow Lake-HX launches. The launch stands out because its specifications sit very close to existing Core Ultra 5 models, adding another layer to Intel’s already crowded laptop CPU naming scheme highlighted by recent Core Ultra comparisons.

The Core 7 245HX features six Performance cores and eight Efficient cores for a total of 14 cores. Intel lists 14 threads, suggesting Hyper-Threading is not active on this model. Maximum turbo frequency reaches 5.1GHz, while base clocks are rated at 2.9GHz for the Performance cores and 2.6GHz for the Efficient cores.

Cache includes 24MB of Intel Smart Cache and 26MB of total L2 cache. Power ratings are set at 55W processor base power and up to 160W maximum turbo power, putting it in the same class as other HX-series chips found in gaming laptops and mobile workstations.

Integrated graphics come with three Xe cores clocked up to 1.8GHz. Intel lists support for up to four displays, AV1 hardware encode and decode, HDMI 2.1, and DisplayPort 2.1 output, depending on notebook design.

For AI features, the processor includes Intel AI Boost with up to 13 TOPS from the NPU. Intel also lists 27 total platform TOPS when CPU, GPU, and NPU acceleration are combined. That remains below the current 40 TOPS NPU level associated with Copilot+ PCs.

Memory support reaches up to 256GB of DDR5-6400 across two channels. PCIe 5.0 and PCIe 4.0 are supported with up to 24 total lanes for dedicated GPUs and NVMe storage. Thunderbolt 4 support is also listed, a feature still common across many premium notebooks.

The unusual part is where the Core 7 245HX fits in Intel’s stack. On paper, it is nearly identical to the Core Ultra 5 235HX. Meanwhile, the separately listed Core Ultra 5 245HX carries higher graphics clocks, ECC memory support, and additional enterprise features. That makes the new Core 7 245HX one of Intel’s more confusing laptop CPU launches this generation, especially as Intel continues to refresh multiple desktop and mobile product tiers.

Intel lists the processor as launched, but no notebook makers have announced systems based on the Core 7 245HX yet.
