MSI marked Star Wars Day with a teaser for a limited-edition GeForce RTX 5080 inspired by The Mandalorian and Grogu, with just 500 units planned ahead of a full reveal on May 22, the same date as the film’s theatrical debut. The low production count places it among the most limited themed GPUs tied to a major franchise.
The card is built on MSI’s existing RTX 5080 Gaming Trio design, so the core hardware stays the same. It features NVIDIA’s Blackwell architecture, 16GB of GDDR7 memory, and 10,752 CUDA cores on a 256-bit memory interface. Performance will match standard RTX 5080 partner cards, with no change in clock speeds or power limits.
What makes this edition stand out is its collector-focused design. MSI is adding a full themed finish across the cooler shroud, backplate, and packaging, inspired by The Mandalorian and Grogu. Early details point to Grogu artwork along with iconic symbols such as the Mythosaur skull and Mudhorn signet, turning the GPU into more than just a gaming component.
The layout closely follows the Gaming Trio series, including a triple-fan cooling design and similar structure used in ASUS Prime RTX 5080 EVO designs. Since the internal configuration remains unchanged, thermal behavior and noise levels are expected to stay in line with standard RTX 5080 models.
Limited-edition GPUs like this follow a familiar pattern seen in releases such as Colorful iGame GeForce RTX 50 Ultra Series. The hardware remains identical, while the design shifts toward branding and exclusivity. In this case, the connection to a major Star Wars theatrical release adds to its appeal, especially for collectors.
With only 500 units planned, availability will be extremely tight. Cards in this category often sell out quickly, sometimes within minutes, depending on distribution. Pricing has not been confirmed, but limited themed models typically carry a premium over standard versions.
The RTX 5080 itself targets high-refresh 1440p gaming and entry-level 4K performance, with support for DLSS 4 and updated ray tracing features outlined in DLSS 4.5 updates. Since this edition shares the same hardware, performance will remain identical to other RTX 5080 cards.
MSI is expected to share full details, including final design images and availability, on May 22. Until then, the teaser confirms the concept, production limit, and its tie-in with one of the biggest entertainment releases of the year.
