AMD has unveiled an unusual pair of gaming processors at Computex 2026. The company is giving the Ryzen 7 5800X3D a second life as a 10th Anniversary Edition for the AM4 platform while introducing the Ryzen 7 7700X3D for AM5.
The pricing immediately stands out. AMD has set the new Ryzen 7 7700X3D at $330, while the older Ryzen 7 5800X3D returns at $350 despite being based on the Zen 3 architecture from 2022.
That decision highlights just how valuable the AM4 platform remains. Millions of users are still running Ryzen 3000 and Ryzen 5000 processors, and for many of them, swapping in a faster CPU is far cheaper than replacing a motherboard, processor, and DDR5 memory kit.
AMD appears confident that a significant number of AM4 gamers are still willing to pay for what could be the platform’s final premium upgrade.
Ryzen 7 5800X3D Returns for AM4’s 10th Anniversary
The Ryzen 7 5800X3D was the processor that introduced AMD’s 3D V-Cache technology to desktop gamers. When it arrived in 2022, it quickly established itself as one of the fastest gaming CPUs available and extended the lifespan of the AM4 platform well beyond expectations.
Even after production ended, demand remained strong. The processor became increasingly difficult to find at retail, and second-hand prices frequently climbed above $400 as gamers searched for the best possible AM4 upgrade.
AMD is now bringing the chip back as the Ryzen 7 5800X3D 10th Anniversary Edition. Specifications remain unchanged from the original model. Buyers still get 8 Zen 3 cores, 16 threads, boost clocks up to 4.5GHz, and 96MB of L3 cache enhanced by 3D V-Cache technology.
The anniversary package comes with commemorative branding and a Carbice Ice Pad thermal interface sheet. A stock cooler is not provided.
Despite its age, AMD continues to position the processor as a high-end gaming option. During its Computex presentation, the company claimed the Ryzen 7 5800X3D remains the fastest gaming processor available for DDR4 platforms. AMD’s own figures showed the chip outperforming Intel’s Core i9-14900K by roughly 10 percent in DDR4 gaming comparisons.
The Ryzen 7 5800X3D 10th Anniversary Edition will be available beginning June 25 for $350.
Ryzen 7 7700X3D Arrives as a Lower-Cost Alternative to the 7800X3D
Alongside the revived AM4 favorite, AMD has introduced the Ryzen 7 7700X3D for gamers building new PCs around the AM5 platform.
The processor features 8 Zen 4 cores, 16 threads, and 104MB of total cache, including 96MB of L3 cache powered by AMD’s 3D V-Cache technology. The configuration closely mirrors the former Ryzen 7 7800X3D, one of the most successful gaming processors of the AM5 generation.
The biggest difference is clock speed. The Ryzen 7 7700X3D boosts up to 4.5GHz, compared to 5.0GHz on the discontinued Ryzen 7 7800X3D. That makes the new model look very much like a lower-clocked version of the 7800X3D, allowing AMD to create a more affordable X3D option without sacrificing the large cache configuration that drives gaming performance.
AMD has not shared official gaming benchmarks for the processor, but the specifications suggest it should remain competitive with higher-end gaming CPUs in cache-sensitive titles. The strategy closely resembles the Ryzen 7 5700X3D, which delivered much of the appeal of the flagship 5800X3D at a lower price point.
At this price, the Ryzen 7 7700X3D undercuts the revived Ryzen 7 5800X3D by $20 while offering access to AMD’s newer platform. For gamers building a brand-new PC, that pricing could make the processor one of the most attractive X3D options in AMD’s current lineup.
The Ryzen 7 7700X3D is scheduled to become available on July 16 for $330.
AMD’s latest announcement creates an unusual situation in the gaming CPU market. Existing AM4 users now have another opportunity to buy one of the platform’s most sought-after processors, while new builders can step into AM5 with a lower-priced X3D chip.
In effect, AMD is charging a premium for the convenience of staying on AM4 while giving new AM5 adopters a cheaper path into its gaming-focused processor family.
