Dell has introduced the Pro 5 14 and Pro 5 16 as part of its updated commercial laptop lineup, bringing a new modular design, support for both Intel and AMD platforms, and one of the first uses of LPCAMM2 memory in mainstream business systems. Laptop in this category now focus more on efficiency and on-device processing, similar to the Lenovo ThinkPad T14s Gen 7.
Positioned between the Pro 3 and Pro 7 series, these models are aimed at users who need more performance and flexibility than entry-level systems without moving to heavier workstation-class devices.
A major change in this generation is the internal design. Dell has reduced the motherboard size, creating additional space for larger cooling components. This allows the system to handle sustained workloads more effectively while maintaining a thinner chassis.
The same layout also makes it possible to support both Intel and AMD processors within a single hardware design. This can simplify deployment for organizations that need different configurations across teams while keeping a consistent system design.
Processor options include Intel Core Ultra Series 3 and AMD Ryzen AI 400 chips. Intel configurations can include integrated Arc graphics, while AMD variants use Radeon graphics, depending on the setup.
One of the most notable additions is support for LPCAMM2 memory. This newer memory format delivers the efficiency and bandwidth of LPDDR while remaining user-replaceable, which is uncommon in modern laptops. It allows systems with higher-performance integrated graphics to use fast memory without sacrificing upgradeability.
Memory configuration also depends on the processor. Systems that require LPDDR-based memory for higher graphics performance use LPCAMM2 modules, while other configurations continue to offer standard DDR5 memory through SO-DIMM slots.
Display options include WUXGA panels along with higher-resolution IPS and OLED variants. Some configurations offer higher refresh rates and increased brightness, which can improve visibility in brighter working environments.
The new models use an aluminum chassis and are up to 12% thinner than the previous generation, while still supporting battery options up to 70Wh for longer usage during work sessions.
Connectivity includes Thunderbolt 4, USB-A, HDMI, and Ethernet ports, along with wireless support for Wi-Fi 7 and optional cellular connectivity.
Dell plans to release the Pro 5 14 and Pro 5 16 in May 2026. Pricing has not been announced yet.
