Framework is changing some Laptop 13 Pro preorders after a sharp rise in LPCAMM2 memory prices disrupted its original plans. According to the company, its memory supplier recently more than doubled the price of LPCAMM2 modules. The increase pushed costs high enough that Framework said it could no longer absorb the expense without putting its business at financial risk.
Framework had expected LPCAMM2 memory prices to rise by only a low- to mid-double-digit percentage between the second and third quarters. Instead, the latest prices from its supplier were much higher than expected. After reviewing its options, the company decided to update some preorder configurations and pricing while honoring existing preorders wherever possible.
Customers with later Laptop 13 Pro preorders will see the biggest changes. Framework said it has enough 64GB LPCAMM2 modules to fulfill Laptop 13 Pro orders through Batch 4 and Mainboard orders through Batch 7. After that, orders originally placed with 64GB of memory will instead ship with a 32GB module, while customers will pay the original 32GB price.
The remaining 32GB memory modules have been reserved for DIY Edition laptops and Mainboard orders through the same batches. Customers with later DIY Edition or Mainboard preorders that originally selected 32GB memory will instead receive 16GB modules while paying the original 16GB price.
Framework noted that pre-built Laptop 13 Pro systems originally configured with 32GB memory are not affected because the company does not currently offer a compatible 16GB pre-built configuration. It plans to introduce that option in the future.
Framework has raised prices for new Laptop 13 Pro orders. Even with the increase, the company said it is still selling LPCAMM2 memory below its current purchase cost to help limit the impact on customers. It added that the price of the 16GB memory option is expected to increase once its remaining lower-cost inventory runs out.
The price changes are not limited to memory. Framework has also increased the cost of some Laptop 13 Pro systems and Mainboards due to higher prices for Intel Core Ultra Series 3 processors, increased Windows licensing fees, and rising costs for other silicon components used in select Ryzen AI 300 Series configurations.
Not all of Framework’s pricing changes are increases. The company has lowered prices for its 48GB DDR5 memory modules, the WD_BLACK SN850X 8TB SSD, and the WD Blue SN7100 1TB SSD after securing better supply costs. At the same time, prices have gone up for 16GB DDR5 memory, the WD_BLACK SN850X 1TB SSD, and the WD Blue SN7100 4TB SSD because of higher market costs.
Framework confirmed that existing preorders will continue to receive the originally agreed pricing. If the price of a memory or storage option drops before an order ships, customers will automatically receive the lower price. However, changing the memory or storage configuration of an existing preorder will apply the latest pricing.
The company says the memory market remains highly volatile as demand from AI infrastructure and other silicon-intensive products continues to put pressure on supply. Framework added that it will continue providing updates as pricing and component availability evolve.
