Ugreen introduced the AP16 portable monitor in China with a 16-inch BOE IPS panel running at 2560 × 1600 resolution, a 165Hz refresh rate, and brightness reaching up to 500 nits inside a slim 6.5 mm metal chassis. The new model pushes well beyond the typical portable monitor formula where many competing products still rely on basic 1080p 60Hz panels with lower brightness and simpler plastic construction.
The display runs in a 16:10 aspect ratio, giving more vertical workspace than standard 16:9 portable screens, matching the format used in the Huawei MateBook 14. Combined with the higher 2.5K resolution, the AP16 looks positioned toward users who spend long hours working across multiple windows, editing documents, browsing large spreadsheets, or pairing a second display with high-end laptops and gaming handhelds.
While most portable displays remain capped at 60Hz, the AP16 reaches 165Hz, placing it closer to premium gaming monitors including the ViewSonic VA27G11. Notebookcheck compared the panel approach against products like the Asus ZenScreen lineup, which generally ships with lower refresh rates and lower brightness levels.
Brightness reaches up to 500 nits, roughly double the output commonly seen in many lower-cost portable monitors, approaching the level of the BenQ MA320UG. Ugreen paired that with a 1200:1 contrast ratio and full 100% sRGB color coverage. The panel supports 10-bit color through 8-bit + FRC processing and arrives factory calibrated with Delta E<2 color accuracy, making it far more capable for photo work, video editing, and content creation than most portable displays in this segment.
The AP16 takes a different direction from the folio-style covers commonly bundled with portable monitors. Instead of relying on a thin folding case, Ugreen paired the display with a detachable magnetic stand supporting both landscape and portrait orientation alongside a wider range of angle adjustments. The stand raises the display higher off the desk than standard folio covers, creating a setup that looks much closer to a traditional desktop monitor.
Despite the metal construction, the monitor weighs around 2.05 lbs (928 g), keeping it portable enough for backpacks and travel bags. The body remains relatively thin at just 0.26 inches (6.5 mm), giving the AP16 a cleaner and more premium appearance than many competing portable monitors built around thicker plastic shells.
Connectivity consists of two full-function USB-C ports and a mini-HDMI connection. Single-cable USB-C operation requires at least 15W input power. When an external charger connects to the second USB-C port, the monitor can pass up to 60W charging directly to a connected laptop through the same cable arrangement.

Compatibility extends across Windows laptops, MacBooks, tablets, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation consoles, and handheld gaming devices from ASUS and Lenovo including the ROG Flow Z13 KJP. Ugreen added TÜV Rheinland low blue light certification for longer viewing sessions alongside built-in stereo speakers for basic audio playback.
Ugreen priced the AP16 at 1,799 yuan in China, which converts to roughly $265. Import listings through AliExpress have already surfaced at significantly higher pricing near $484. Global availability outside China has not been confirmed yet.
