Today, ASUS has introduced the ProArt PA40SU, a compact external SSD enclosure built for high-speed storage work. It connects over USB4 and reaches transfer speeds of up to 40Gbps, targeting large media files and long data sessions, seen in high-speed storage setups like the OWC Envoy SSD lineup.
M.2 NVMe drives in both 2230 and 2280 sizes fit inside, giving flexibility for different storage setups, like the SanDisk Extreme Pro Portable SSD 8TB. The USB-C connection also works with older standards, including USB 3.2 and USB 2.0.
A four-level smart cooling fan sits inside the enclosure along with a thermal pad. This setup keeps temperatures in check during extended use while maintaining low noise. In ASUS testing, the enclosure moved up to 2,960GB of data continuously over a 30-minute run without major drops in performance.
The body stays slim at 13.5 mm and uses a metal build with a Stealth Black finish. A push-to-open mechanism allows quick access without tools, making SSD swaps easier for users who handle multiple drives.

ASUS also provides the ProArt SSD Dashboard, showing real-time data such as drive health, temperature, and transfer activity.
Storage support ranges across 1TB, 2TB, and 4TB NVMe SSDs. Power comes directly through USB at 5V, so no external adapter is required.
The enclosure measures 124.8 × 46.5 × 13.5 mm and weighs about 127 grams, keeping it easy to carry between setups. It works with Windows 10 and 11 as well as macOS 14.4 or later.
Operating temperatures range from 0°C to 40°C, with storage tolerance from -40°C to 60°C.
The ProArt PA40SU is positioned for workloads such as 4K video editing, large asset transfers, and backup tasks where steady performance matters more than short bursts.
