Valve Reveals Steam Machine Pricing, Starts at $1,049

Valve’s Steam Machine starts at $1,049 for the 512GB version, while the highest-capacity model reaches $1,428. Alongside the pricing announcement, reservations are now open ahead of the first purchase invitations scheduled for June 29.

Four versions of the device will be available. The entry model comes with 512GB of NVMe storage and costs $1,049. Buyers who want a Steam Controller can choose a bundle priced at $1,128. A 2TB version is priced at $1,349, while the 2TB bundle with a Steam Controller reaches $1,428. The larger storage variants receive additional red fabric and walnut faceplates.

Purchasing a Steam Machine requires a reservation rather than a traditional pre-order. Registration remains open until June 25. After registrations close, Valve will randomize the queue and begin sending purchase invitations. Customers selected from the queue will have 72 hours to complete their order before the invitation expires.

Several eligibility requirements apply. Participants must have a Steam account in good standing and at least one Steam purchase completed before April 27, 2026. Reservations are limited to one per household in an effort to reduce reseller activity during the initial rollout.

The pricing immediately places Steam Machine closer to premium gaming PCs and mini PCs than traditional consoles. At more than $1,000, the device enters a category where buyers are likely to compare it with custom-built desktops, compact gaming PCs, and other high-performance gaming hardware.

Inside the compact chassis is a semi-custom AMD platform developed specifically for the device. The hardware combines a six-core Zen 4 processor with custom RDNA 3 graphics. Valve pairs the platform with DDR5 memory and dedicated GDDR6 graphics memory.

Early performance information places graphics capability between the Radeon RX 6600 and Radeon RX 7600 in many games. That level of performance should allow modern PC titles to run comfortably at 1080p and 1440p resolutions depending on the game and graphics settings.

Storage options consist of either a 512GB or 2TB NVMe SSD. Both versions support expansion through a built-in microSD card slot, allowing users to add extra storage for larger game libraries.

Connectivity consists of Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.3, Gigabit Ethernet, DisplayPort 1.4, HDMI 2.0, one USB-C port, and four USB-A ports. A dedicated wireless connection for the Steam Controller is integrated directly into the hardware.

Steam Machine remains considerably smaller than a traditional gaming desktop. The compact enclosure is designed to fit naturally into entertainment centers, television setups, and living-room gaming environments while maintaining access to PC gaming features.

SteamOS serves as the default operating environment. Owners gain direct access to their Steam libraries while retaining the freedom to install additional applications or replace SteamOS with another operating system if desired.

Valve has acknowledged that rising memory and storage costs influenced the final pricing. According to the company, increasing component costs during development made earlier pricing targets difficult to maintain. Supply constraints have further limited production volume, leading to the reservation-based purchasing process.

The Steam Machine combines a compact form factor, SteamOS, and PC gaming flexibility in a single device. Whether buyers embrace that formula at a starting price of $1,049 will become clearer once the first purchase invitations begin rolling out on June 29.
