Colorful Overclocks CXMT DDR5 Memory to 8600 MT/s on Ryzen 9 9950X3D

Colorful has overclocked its CXMT-based DDR5 memory kit to an effective transfer rate of 8,600 MT/s on the AMD AM5 platform. The demonstration used a 32GB iGame Shadow II dual-channel desktop pack consisting of two 16GB modules. The memory kit uses 2GB dies developed by Chinese silicon maker CXMT.

Colorful installed the memory on its iGame X870E VULCAN OC V14 motherboard, which uses a specialized dual-DIMM layout to improve signal integrity. This AM5 motherboard was paired with AMD’s flagship Ryzen 9 9950X3D processor. During testing, CPU-Z recorded a 4,299.9 MHz DRAM clock to verify the overclocked memory speed.

The tested iGame Shadow II modules are officially rated for standard DDR5-6000 speeds. However, the overclocking attempt pushed the memory frequency up to DDR5-8600 using CL46 timings. To prove the stability of the configuration, the kit successfully completed a 100% RunMemTestPro verification pass.

This test represents the fastest recorded speed for a DDR5 memory kit using CXMT 2GB dies. The result surpasses a recent DDR5-8400 validation from ASUS by 200 MT/s and MSI’s DDR5-8200 benchmark by 400 MT/s.

To accommodate extreme tuning, the Colorful iGame motherboard officially supports Ryzen 9000 memory configurations up to DDR5-8600+. The manufacturer general specifications even suggest that memory speeds could exceed DDR5-10000 under optimal liquid nitrogen cooling scenarios.

Despite these motherboard achievements, global memory brands have not announced plans to use CXMT silicon in mainstream retail configurations. Gamers looking for more options will have to wait for domestic chip supply to enter international markets.
