Lenovo Releases ThinkPad P16s Gen 5 AMD Mobile Workstation Globally

Lenovo is expanding sales of the ThinkPad P16s Gen 5 (AMD) across more regions after first introducing the workstation earlier this year. The latest model moves to AMD Ryzen AI PRO processors, adds optional NVIDIA RTX PRO Blackwell Laptop graphics, increases memory support to 96GB with LPCAMM2, and offers an optional 16-inch 2.8K OLED display with a refresh rate that adjusts from 30Hz to 120Hz. The notebook starts at 1.75kg (3.86lbs).

AMD’s Ryzen AI 5 PRO 440 sits at the entry level, while the Ryzen AI 9 HX PRO 470 leads the lineup with up to 12 CPU cores, boost clocks reaching 5.2GHz, and an XDNA 2 NPU capable of delivering up to 55 TOPS. Ryzen AI 5 PRO 440 and Ryzen AI 7 PRO 450 configurations provide up to 50 TOPS, qualifying them for Microsoft’s Copilot+ PC platform.

Graphics begin with the integrated Radeon 890M. Buyers who need extra graphics performance can choose the RTX PRO 1000 Blackwell Laptop GPU or the RTX PRO 2000 Blackwell Laptop GPU. The RTX PRO 2000 version carries 8GB of GDDR7 memory and delivers up to 572 TOPS of AI performance.

Lenovo has replaced traditional onboard memory with an LPCAMM2 module that supports up to 96GB of LPDDR5X memory. The company lists memory speeds at up to 8533MT/s, while the platform operates at LPDDR5X-7500. Storage support reaches 4TB through a PCIe Gen 5 NVMe SSD, although current retail configurations vary by region and top out at 2TB.

Three display configurations are available. The highest-end option pairs a 2880 × 1800 OLED panel with Dolby Vision, VESA DisplayHDR True Black 1000, 100% DCI-P3 color coverage, X-Rite Factory Color Calibration, Eyesafe certification, 500 nits of brightness, and a variable refresh rate between 30Hz and 120Hz. Lenovo continues to offer two 1920 × 1200 IPS panels for buyers who prefer LCD displays, including a 400-nit anti-glare version and a 500-nit low-power touchscreen.

The ThinkPad P16s Gen 5 carries ISV certifications from Adobe, Autodesk, Altair, ANSYS, AVID, Bentley, Dassault Systèmes, Nemetschek, PTC, and Siemens. These certifications cover software widely used for engineering, architecture, manufacturing, simulation, media production, and product design.

Lenovo keeps several parts easy to replace, including the battery, LPCAMM2 memory module, SSD, keyboard, USB-C ports, and optional WWAN module. Buyers can choose between 60Wh and 90Wh batteries. The larger pack supports 140W USB-C charging, while selected configurations ship with a 100W USB-C charger.

ThinkShield security remains part of the package alongside Microsoft Secured-core PC support, dTPM 2.0, Self-Healing BIOS, a fingerprint reader built into the power button, and optional facial recognition. Camera choices consist of a 5MP RGB camera with a privacy shutter or a 5MP RGB and IR camera with Computer Vision support.

The familiar ThinkPad keyboard returns with a dedicated Copilot key, full-size numeric keypad, 1.5mm key travel, spill-resistant construction, TrackPoint, TrackPoint Quick Menu, and a large three-button touchpad.

Two USB-C ports support USB 40Gbps, Power Delivery 3.1, and DisplayPort 2.1. The notebook carries two USB-A 5Gbps ports, HDMI 2.0, Gigabit Ethernet, a 3.5mm headset jack, plus optional Smart Card and SD Express 7.0 readers. Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.4, optional NFC, and an optional Snapdragon X61 5G modem complete the wireless connectivity.

Dual 2W speakers support Dolby Atmos and Dolby Voice, while dual-array microphones improve voice pickup during calls. Lenovo builds the chassis with recycled aluminum and recycled plastics in several areas, and the packaging relies on recycled and FSC-certified materials. The notebook meets MIL-STD-810H durability requirements.

The ThinkPad P16s Gen 5 (AMD) is available through Lenovo’s regional stores. Pricing starts at HK$18,024 in Hong Kong. In the United States, Lenovo currently lists a configuration with a Ryzen AI 7 PRO 450 processor, RTX PRO 1000 Blackwell Laptop GPU, 64GB of LPCAMM2 memory, a 2TB PCIe Gen 5 SSD, a 90Wh battery, and the 2.8K OLED display for $5,229.
