ASUS has introduced a new lineup of dual-mode 4K gaming monitors under its ROG Strix and TUF Gaming series. These displays let you switch between very high refresh rates and full 4K resolution, depending on what you need. Models like the ROG Strix XG27UCG Gen 2, XG27UCS Gen 2, and TUF Gaming VG27UQEL5A are built for gamers who want both competitive performance and sharp visuals without having to rely on multiple screens, similar to the ROG Strix XG27UCG Gen 2 lineup.
All three monitors are ROG Strix XG27UCG Gen 2, ROG Strix XG27UCS Gen 2, and TUF Gaming VG27UQEL5A, feature 27-inch 4K Fast IPS panels and support dual-mode switching, allowing users to toggle between 4K output and lower resolutions with significantly higher refresh rates. In top configurations, refresh rates can go up to 485Hz in Full HD mode, placing these displays among the fastest gaming monitors currently announced.
ASUS is also introducing its Smart Pixel technology, designed to improve image clarity when running at lower resolutions. Enhancing scaling and sharpness, it helps reduce the softness that often appears when switching away from native 4K, keeping visuals clearer even in high refresh rate modes.
ROG Strix models offer performance with response times as low as 0.3 ms and support adaptive sync, including AMD FreeSync Premium and NVIDIA G-SYNC compatibility, which helps reduce screen tearing and stutter.
They’re also VESA DisplayHDR 400 certified and cover up to 95 percent of the DCI-P3 color range, so they’re not just good for gaming but also work well for watching content or doing creative tasks.
Connectivity is set up to work well with modern systems with HDMI 2.1, DisplayPort 1.4, and USB-C with power delivery, similar to the ASUS TUF VG34WQML5A. Features like Extreme Low Motion Blur Sync also help keep motion clear during fast-paced gameplay.
The TUF Gaming VG27UQEL5A brings the same dual-mode concept to a more accessible segment. It offers a balance between 4K clarity and high refresh rates, making it a practical option for users who want versatility without stepping into the premium price range.
The dual-mode feature lets you switch between high refresh rates and full 4K resolution almost instantly, so it feels like having two different displays in one. Coverage around the launch also points out that these monitors are part of a growing trend, with displays like the AOC AGON Pro AGP277QK.
