Carrying a split ergonomic keyboard from place to place is not always convenient. Dygma Sonsei replaces the two-piece layout with a single aluminum body that is easier to slip into a backpack while keeping the familiar column-staggered key layout. The keyboard starts at $279.
Sonsei is a different direction for Dygma after the split Defy and Raise keyboards. The new keyboard keeps the ergonomic layout but removes the extra cable and separate halves, making it a better fit for trains, coffee shops, offices, meeting rooms, and other places where a split keyboard can be awkward.
The keyboard has a 56-key layout with eight thumb keys and a full number row. Dygma believes this layout is easier to learn than many compact ergonomic keyboards because users do not have to rely on layers for everyday number input. Every key can be remapped through the Bazecor software, with support for Windows, macOS, and Linux.
Bluetooth can stay connected to five devices, making it easy to move between a laptop, desktop, tablet, or phone. A wired USB-C connection is available as well. The built-in 2,000mAh battery is rated for more than 40 days with the RGB lighting turned off or more than 8 hours with the lighting at full brightness.
Inside the keyboard are Gateron KS-33 2.0 low-profile mechanical switches installed in hot-swappable sockets. Double-shot PBT keycaps, per-key RGB lighting, and several sound-dampening layers are part of the keyboard, while optional plush palm pads are available for users who want extra wrist support.
Sonsei weighs about 393 grams and measures 299 × 140 × 18.4 mm. Dygma ships the keyboard with a lightweight travel sleeve, and the V-shaped layout lets it rest on top of many laptop keyboards without pressing the built-in keys.
