VAIO has refreshed the SX14-R in Japan with Intel’s Core Ultra Series 3 processors, bringing higher AI performance and faster storage while keeping the same lightweight design. Orders are already open, with pricing starting around 327,800 yen (about $2,050).
The new version moves to Core Ultra 7 356H and Core Ultra 5 325 processors. VAIO states CPU performance can reach up to 123% higher than the previous model, based on its internal testing. The integrated NPU delivers between 47 and 50 TOPS, which meets the requirements for Copilot+ PCs and allows more AI features to run locally in line with other Copilot+ laptop developments.
Weight remains a key part of the SX14-R. Lighter configurations come in around 958 grams (about 2.1 lbs), while higher-spec models can go up to roughly 1.25 kg depending on battery and hardware choices. The chassis continues to use carbon fiber panels to keep the body rigid without adding extra weight.
The display stays at 14 inches with a 16:10 aspect ratio. Buyers can choose between a 1920 × 1200 anti-glare panel or a sharper 2560 × 1600 glossy screen. The higher-resolution option also supports pen input, adding flexibility for note-taking and design work.
Memory options range from 16GB up to 64GB LPDDR5X. Storage runs on PCIe 4.0 NVMe SSDs, with capacities up to 2TB. VAIO also reports SSD speeds improving by up to 177% compared to the previous generation, which should reduce load times for larger files and applications.

Port selection covers both modern and legacy needs. The laptop includes HDMI, two USB-A ports, and two USB-C ports with Thunderbolt 4, DisplayPort 2.1, and Power Delivery. Wired Ethernet is still available, along with Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4. Optional 5G connectivity is supported through nanoSIM or eSIM configurations.
Security and video features are also upgraded. A 9.2MP front camera supports Windows Hello facial recognition, and a fingerprint reader is built into the power button. Audio is handled by stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos and a triple-microphone setup with AI noise reduction.
Battery life varies based on configuration. Under JEITA 3.0 testing, video playback ranges from about 11 hours up to 20.5 hours depending on the battery option.
The SX14-R is available in multiple finishes including Deep Emerald, Urban Bronze, Fine Red, Bright Silver, and Fine Black. Deliveries are scheduled to begin in May 2026 in Japan.
