Apple’s long-awaited OLED MacBook Pro could arrive later than expected. Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reports that ongoing DRAM shortages are affecting Apple’s schedule, with the redesigned notebook now tipped for early 2027 instead of a late 2026 debut.
The next MacBook Pro is rumored to bring the biggest hardware refresh since Apple moved to Apple Silicon in 2021. Reports point to a thinner chassis, tandem OLED display, touchscreen support, and a smaller camera cutout replacing the current notch.
Apple is also expected to pair the redesign with M6 Pro and M6 Max processors. Gurman noted that software development remains on track for a fall timeline, suggesting the delay is tied to component availability rather than macOS readiness.
Touch support would be a major shift for the MacBook line after years of Apple keeping touch features exclusive to the iPad, following earlier reports about an OLED touchscreen MacBook. Earlier reports indicate macOS 27 may include interface changes that make touch input more practical while keeping the Mac centered on keyboard and trackpad controls.

Apple already moved to tandem OLED technology with the latest iPad Pro, a display approach also linked to the next MacBook Pro refresh. The stacked-panel design can improve brightness, power efficiency, and panel lifespan compared with standard OLED screens, making it a logical next step for the MacBook Pro.
The same supply issues may also affect the next Mac Studio. Apple had reportedly targeted a mid-year refresh, but shipments could now move to October. The desktop system is expected to keep its current design while moving to faster M5 Max or M5 Ultra chips.
Apple has not confirmed launch dates for either product, so the reported 2027 MacBook Pro timeline remains unofficial.
