Buying separate monitors for high-resolution games and high-refresh esports titles is becoming less necessary with the ROG Strix XG27UCMG. ASUS has built three display modes into the same 27-inch Fast IPS panel, letting owners switch between 4K at 240Hz, QHD at 400Hz (overclocked) and Full HD at 488Hz (overclocked) with a dedicated hotkey.
The screen stays at 27 inches regardless of the selected mode, so changing refresh rate does not mean changing displays. A single button changes the resolution and refresh rate, making it easy to move between different types of games without opening graphics settings each time.
Image quality starts with a native resolution of 3840 × 2160. The Fast IPS panel carries a minimum response time of 0.3ms, reaches 400 nits of brightness, supports VESA DisplayHDR 400, covers 95% of the DCI-P3 colour space and 130% sRGB, and every monitor leaves the factory after colour calibration.
Lower resolutions often look softer than native 4K, so ASUS adds Smart Pixel technology to reduce that effect. According to the company, text, small objects and fine edges remain clearer after switching to the faster QHD or Full HD display modes.
Motion features are built around Adaptive-Sync, G-SYNC Compatible, ELMB Sync, and Variable Overdrive 2.0. As frame rates change, the monitor adjusts its overdrive behaviour automatically to reduce visible ghosting across different refresh rates.
Three picture tools are available through ASUS Gaming AI. AI Visual changes display settings according to the content on screen, Dynamic Crosshair changes crosshair colour to keep it visible, and Dynamic Shadow Boost brightens darker parts of a game scene without increasing brightness across the whole image.
The rear panel carries DisplayPort 1.4 with DSC, HDMI 2.1, USB Type-C with DisplayPort Alt Mode and 15W Power Delivery, two USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A ports, and a 3.5mm headphone jack. ASUS lists support for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, Nintendo Switch 2, and ROG Ally X, with Auto Low Latency Mode available for supported devices.
Physical adjustments cover height, swivel, tilt and pivot. The compact stand carries a built-in phone holder, while 100 × 100mm VESA support gives buyers another mounting option. Monitor settings can be changed through DisplayWidget Center with a mouse instead of navigating the on-screen menu through physical buttons.

The specification page adds a few details that were not highlighted in the announcement. The XG27UCMG features an anti-glare coating, displays 1.07 billion colours, supports HDR10, has a built-in KVM switch, and does not have integrated speakers.
ASUS has not announced pricing or availability outside China. The expected price in the Chinese market of this Monitor is CNY 3,499.
