HHKB Studio owners now have a new color option to choose from. PFU has added an Ash Gray keycap set for the HHKB Studio, expanding the customization options available for the keyboard. The new color joins the existing Ink and Snow themes and is now available in Japan starting at 6,600 yen.
The new shade takes inspiration from ash left behind after a fire. PFU describes the color as an expression of the design philosophy that has shaped HHKB products for years, focusing on simplicity and removing anything unnecessary. The result is a neutral gray finish that sits naturally between the darker Ink model and the lighter Snow version.
The keycap set is available in both English and Japanese layouts. Buyers can choose between printed keycaps with legends or blank keycaps without any markings. Blank keycaps remain popular among experienced HHKB users who prefer a cleaner appearance and rely on touch typing rather than printed characters.

The Ash Gray color has been designed to complement both existing HHKB Studio finishes. Owners of the black Ink version can combine gray and black keycaps for a darker two-tone appearance, while Snow users can mix gray and white keys for a lighter look. The new color gives users more flexibility when customizing their keyboard.
HHKB Studio differs from traditional Happy Hacking Keyboard models by combining multiple input methods in a single device. Alongside the keyboard itself, it features a built-in pointing stick, dedicated mouse buttons, and touch gesture controls for scrolling and navigation. These additions allow users to perform many desktop tasks without constantly moving to a separate mouse.

First introduced in 2023, HHKB Studio has gained attention among programmers, developers, writers, and keyboard enthusiasts looking for a compact workspace setup. The keyboard keeps the familiar HHKB layout while adding features aimed at users who spend long hours at their desk.
The new Ash Gray keycap set does not change the keyboard’s functionality, but it gives existing owners another way to customize the appearance of their setup. In the enthusiast keyboard community, keycaps are often one of the easiest and most popular upgrades, making new color options highly desirable.
Sales have already started through HHKB channels in Japan. Pricing begins at 6,600 yen, which is roughly $46 based on current exchange rates. PFU has not announced availability for other regions at this time.
