Lenovo’s ThinkPad T16 Gen 5 brings a major change to the T-series, following updates seen in the Lenovo ThinkPad T14 Gen 7 and T16 Gen 5 preview in MWC 2026. Memory is no longer fixed, which is rare in this category and differs from most thin business laptops with soldered memory.
A single LPCAMM2 module sits inside, supporting up to 64GB LPDDR5X memory. Speeds go up to LPDDR5X-7467 depending on configuration. Most thin business laptops still use soldered memory, so this design gives more flexibility.
Processor options range across Intel Core Ultra 5, Ultra 7, and Ultra X7 chips. Higher-end configurations reach a 16-core layout with performance, efficiency, and low-power cores. Integrated graphics vary by model, including Intel Arc B370 and B390. AI performance reaches up to 50 TOPS from the NPU, with total platform compute crossing 100 TOPS.
A 16-inch display is offered in several configurations. The base panel uses a WUXGA IPS screen at 400 nits. Brighter variants reach 500 nits with full sRGB coverage and touch support. The top option moves to a 2.8K OLED panel with 120Hz refresh rate, 100% DCI-P3 color, Dolby Vision, and DisplayHDR True Black 600.

Storage is handled through a single M.2 2280 slot, supporting PCIe 4.0 and PCIe 5.0 SSDs up to 2TB.
Ports are placed across both sides. Two Thunderbolt 4 ports support DisplayPort 2.1 and power delivery. Two USB-A ports are included, with one supporting charging when powered off. HDMI 2.1 and a full-size Ethernet port remain part of the layout, along with a 3.5 mm audio jack.
Wireless connectivity includes Intel Wi-Fi 7 (BE211) with Bluetooth 5.4. WWAN options allow 4G or 5G upgrades depending on configuration.
The system supports up to four displays, including the internal panel and three external monitors through HDMI and Thunderbolt connections.
Audio comes from stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos support, paired with a dual-microphone array using Dolby Voice. Camera options include a 5MP sensor with IR support and a privacy shutter.
Battery options include 60Wh and 75Wh units. Rapid Charge is supported, reaching up to 80% in about one hour under supported conditions.
The chassis keeps the ThinkPad layout with updates to materials. Depending on configuration, it combines aluminum with PC and carbon fiber structures. Recycled materials are used across several components, including magnesium, plastic, and battery materials.
Security is built around Lenovo’s ThinkShield platform, covering TPM 2.0, fingerprint reader, IR camera, human presence detection, and optional Intel vPro Enterprise.
Repair work is easier than earlier models. The battery uses clip-based access, and the USB-C port is modular, allowing replacement without changing the full board.

Weight starts at around 3.58 lbs (1.63 kg) for lower configurations and goes up to about 3.95 lbs (1.79 kg) depending on battery and connectivity options. The chassis measures roughly 14.09 × 9.76 × 0.45–0.94 inches.
The laptop also meets MIL-STD-810H durability standards and carries certifications such as ENERGY STAR 9.0, EPEAT Gold, and TCO Gen 10.
Pricing varies by region. Early listings start around €1,500 in Europe, while a Hong Kong configuration is listed at HKD 14,990.
