Minisforum N5 Max NAS Starts at $2,899 With Strix Halo and 200TB Storage

Minisforum is ready to begin sales of the N5 Max on April 23 for $2,899, bringing AMD’s Strix Halo platform to one of the most powerful consumer NAS systems announced so far. The new model combines workstation-grade processing power, dual 10GbE networking, and support for up to 200TB of storage in a compact desktop chassis.

The N5 Max NAS comes with AMD’s Ryzen AI Max+ 395, a 16-core, 32-thread processor with boost clocks up to 5.1GHz, the same family recently seen in the OnexStation mini PC. Graphics come from the integrated Radeon 8060S with 40 compute units, giving the N5 Max far more GPU performance than typical home or small-office NAS devices.

Minisforum also lists up to 126 TOPS of total compute performance, including a 50 TOPS NPU. The company says the hardware is ready for local workloads such as semantic photo search, smart media sorting, and offline assistant features through the preinstalled OpenClaw software package.

Memory is fixed at 64GB of LPDDR5X-8533 and cannot be upgraded, though the capacity still matches many 64GB RAM laptops and creator systems. Even so, that amount should be more than enough for virtualization, media libraries, multi-user file serving, and heavy multitasking.

Storage support reaches up to 200TB in total, far beyond the limits of standard consumer desktops and many SSD-based systems. Buyers get five SATA drive bays that can take up to 32TB drives, plus five M.2 NVMe slots for SSD storage. Minisforum ships the launch configuration with a 128GB system SSD already installed, which occupies one of the M.2 slots.

Networking is another major highlight, especially for users comparing high-speed desktop hardware and Thunderbolt 5 systems. The N5 Max includes dual 10GbE LAN ports for fast transfers, backups, and multi-user workloads. Front I/O includes USB4 at 40Gbps and USB 3.2 Gen2, while the rear carries two USB4 v2 ports rated at up to 80Gbps, USB 3.2 Gen2, USB 2.0, HDMI 2.1, and power input. No built-in Wi-Fi or Bluetooth is listed.

Display output can reach up to 8K at 60Hz or 4K at 144Hz through supported ports, giving the PC enough graphics headroom to double as a workstation or media PC similar to some compact creator desktops.

Cooling comes from five heat pipes, phase-change thermal materials, two CPU fans, two HDD fans, and one SSD fan. Minisforum rates noise at 33 dB in balance mode and 38 dB in performance mode.

The chassis measures 199 × 202.4 × 252.3 mm and weighs 12.79 lbs (5.8 kg). Buyers can run MinisCloud OS, Windows 11 Pro, or Linux depending on setup.

At $2,899, the N5 Max costs more than a typical home NAS, but it also delivers hardware closer to a premium mini workstation than a standard storage box.
