MSI showcases MPG 271KRAW18 Monitor With 5K 180Hz and 330Hz Gaming Mode

MSI showcased the MPG 271KRAW18 at Computex, a 27-inch gaming monitor that operates at 5120 × 2880 resolution and 180Hz. A dual-mode feature allows the display to switch to 2560 × 1440 at 330Hz, giving users a choice between ultra-high resolution and esports-focused refresh rates.

The monitor succeeds the previously demonstrated MPG 271KRAW16. Native refresh rate has increased from 165Hz to 180Hz while retaining the dual-mode functionality.

The display features a 27-inch Rapid IPS panel with a pixel density of 218 PPI. MSI states that the 5K panel provides roughly 77% more pixels than a conventional 27-inch 4K monitor, creating more workspace for productivity applications and sharper image detail for games and content creation.

A glossy coating separates the MPG 271KRAW18 from most Mini LED gaming monitors currently available. Matte finishes remain common across the category, while glossy panels are still relatively rare in gaming-focused displays.

Mini LED backlighting is paired with 2,304 local dimming zones. Individual areas of the screen can brighten or darken independently, helping improve contrast performance and black levels during HDR content.

Quantum Dot technology is part of the package as well. The monitor covers 98% of the DCI-P3 color space and carries a Delta E rating below 2.

The display is certified for VESA DisplayHDR 1400 and reaches peak brightness above 1,400 nits. Combined with the Mini LED backlight, the panel is designed for brighter HDR highlights and improved shadow detail.

Gaming specifications include NVIDIA G-SYNC support and a 0.5ms gray-to-gray response time. MSI has added a dedicated hardware switch that allows users to move between 5K 180Hz and 1440p 330Hz modes without entering multiple menu layers.

DisplayPort 2.1 with UHBR20 support provides up to 80Gbps of bandwidth. Additional connectivity consists of HDMI 2.1, USB Type-C with DisplayPort Alt Mode and 98W Power Delivery, two USB Type-A ports, one USB Type-B port, and a headphone jack.

Gigabyte recently introduced the FM275K16P, another 27-inch 5K Mini LED monitor with dual-mode functionality and 2,304 local dimming zones. MSI’s model adds a glossy panel finish and DisplayHDR 1400 certification, while Gigabyte’s competing display is rated for DisplayHDR 1000.

MSI has not announced pricing. Current plans point to availability in early 2027.
