Samsung’s New Laptop OLED Hits 1,600 Nits and Lasts Twice as Long

Samsung Display has begun shipping its new tandem OLED panels for premium laptops that hit a peak brightness of 1,600 nits. This represents a 40% increase in peak brightness compared to conventional single-stack laptop displays that typically cap out at 1,100 nits. The new screen meets VESA’s newly introduced DisplayHDR True Black 1400 certification tier, which requires black levels of 0.0005 nits or lower.

The brightness jump is made possible by the tandem architecture, which stacks two organic emissive layers together instead of using just one. By running both layers together, the panel produces higher brightness under the same current while reducing individual layer stress. As a result, the panel offers more than twice the lifespan of a single-stack OLED under typical operating conditions.

The Lenovo Yoga Pro 9i Aura Edition is the first laptop to adopt the new panel, offering a 16-inch (40.64 cm) screen option. Other major PC brands including ASUS, Dell Technologies, and MSI plan to launch laptops carrying the certified display from the second half of this year through 2027. Newly developed organic materials are also integrated into the display to further optimize overall efficiency and color stability.

Samsung Display plans to showcase the high-brightness panel at the K-Display 2026 exhibition in Seoul from July 22 to 24. Visitors will be able to see the screen running video editing tasks and creator content to demonstrate the brightness differences. The display division is targeting premium laptops where buyers are willing to pay extra for screens that are brighter and resist burn-in over time.
