ASUS Republic of Gamers has officially launch the ROG Crosshair 2006, a special-edition X870E gaming motherboard designed to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the ROG brand and the original Crosshair motherboard lineup.
The new flagship AM5 motherboard combines support for modern AMD Ryzen platforms with a retro-inspired design that pays tribute to enthusiast PC hardware from the mid-2000s.
The Ryzen 9000, Ryzen 8000, and Ryzen 7000 family desktop processors on the AM5 platform are supported by the ASUS ROG Crosshair 2006, which is based on AMD’s X870E chipset, joins ASUS’ growing lineup of premium AM5 enthusiast motherboards. For gamers, overclockers, and high-end PC builders seeking both flagship performance and a collectible design, ASUS is marketing the motherboard as a high-end enthusiast product.
In order to give the board a look reminiscent of vintage enthusiast motherboards from the early DIY gaming PC period, ASUS employed copper-colored heatsinks and blue DDR5 memory slots. The Crosshair 2006 is immediately identifiable inside showcase gaming builds because it contrasts with the darker patterns typically found on contemporary gaming motherboards.
The motherboard also features a built-in 2-inch OLED display placed near the primary M.2 heatsink area, continuing the recent trend of integrated display features on enthusiast motherboards. It can show real-time system information such as CPU temperatures, fan speeds, and clock speeds, while also supporting custom animations and personalized graphics for users building themed gaming PCs.
ASUS pairs the ROG Crosshair 2006 with a robust 20+2+2 phase power design and server-grade memory tuning features aimed at heavy overclocking. The board can support DDR5 memory speeds past 9600 MT/s when overclocked, while features like NitroPath DRAM, DIMM Fit, and AEMP help improve memory stability and performance.
Expansion and storage support are clearly aimed at flagship gaming PCs and workstation-level systems. The motherboard includes dual PCIe 5.0 x16 slots for next-generation graphics cards, along with a total of five M.2 SSD slots, including two PCIe 5.0 M.2 slots designed for ultra-fast Gen 5 NVMe SSDs used in flagship gaming and creator PCs.
ASUS also integrates multiple tool-free installation features including M.2 Q-Release, M.2 Q-Slide, and PCIe Slot Q-Release to simplify hardware upgrades and SSD installation.
The laptop includes WiFi 7 support, dual Ethernet networking with both 10GbE and 5GbE LAN ports, dual USB4 Type-C ports, and several high-speed USB connections for modern gaming peripherals, external storage, and creator-focused accessories.
ASUS is also promoting several AI-powered optimization tools through its ASUS AI Intelligence platform. Features like AI Cache Boost, AI Cooling II, AI Networking II, and automated tuning tools are designed to improve cooling efficiency, network management, and gaming performance without requiring much manual setup.
Another standout addition is ASUS AIO Q-Connector technology, which reduces visible cable clutter between supported all-in-one liquid coolers and the motherboard. ASUS designed the feature to give PC builds a cleaner look while simplifying the installation process for DIY builders
The ROG Crosshair 2006 sits above most mainstream X870E motherboards thanks to its premium power delivery system, retro-inspired collector-focused design, and high-end connectivity features.
The new motherboard lineup highlights how enthusiast PC hardware is moving toward retro-inspired designs paired with cutting-edge features such as PCIe 5.0, DDR5 memory, WiFi 7 connectivity, and smart performance tuning tools, especially for high-end showcase gaming builds.
The motherboard’s retro copper-and-blue design has already attracted strong attention from longtime PC enthusiasts and custom PC builders online.

ASUS has not officially confirmed global pricing for the motherboard yet, although early retailer listings and industry reports suggest the ROG Crosshair 2006 could arrive at around the $799 price range. That would place it firmly in the ultra-premium X870E motherboard category.

With its retro-inspired styling, flagship X870E platform, PCIe 5.0 support, AI-based tuning features, and premium connectivity options, the ASUS ROG Crosshair 2006 caters to both collectors and enthusiasts building next-generation AMD gaming PCs.
