Nvidia RTX 5060 and RTX 5060 Ti 9GB Variants Expected With 25% Bandwidth Drop

Nvidia may be preparing 9GB versions of the GeForce RTX 5060 and RTX 5060 Ti, though the added VRAM may come with lower memory bandwidth, following earlier leaks surrounding the RTX 5060 family.

According to a new leak originating from Board Channels and later shared by Gazlog, Nvidia is reportedly exploring alternate RTX 5060-series variants using 3GB GDDR7 memory modules instead of the current 2GB setup, a memory type that has recently entered higher-capacity production.

That configuration would allow the cards to move from 8GB to 9GB of VRAM by using three 3GB memory chips rather than four 2GB modules, similar to other rumored 9GB Nvidia desktop GPU plans. However, doing so would reportedly reduce the memory bus from 128-bit to 96-bit.

At current 28 Gbps memory speeds, bandwidth would fall from 448 GB/s to 336 GB/s, representing a 25% reduction versus existing RTX 5060 and RTX 5060 Ti models. Even if Nvidia raises memory speed to 32 Gbps, total bandwidth would only recover to 384 GB/s, still below current cards.

The change would add 1GB of VRAM while reducing available memory throughput, which may affect performance in bandwidth-sensitive games and higher-resolution workloads.

The report also claims Samsung, Micron, and SK hynix have ramped production of 3GB GDDR7 memory modules, potentially enabling the shift to 9GB GPU configurations.

The design is expected to help lower board costs by reducing the number of memory chips from four to three, while also easing GDDR7 supply pressure as demand remains high across gaming and AI hardware.

The launch is expected sometime between late May and early June, with Computex seen as a possible reveal window for additional Nvidia GPU announcements.

However, not all leak sources agree. Well-known leaker MEGAsizeGPU has disputed the report, stating that only the RTX 5050 9GB is currently planned and that no RTX 5060 or RTX 5060 Ti 9GB models are in development to their knowledge.

Nvidia has not confirmed any additional RTX 5060-series models, leaving the rumored cards without official confirmation for now.
