Surface Laptop 8 Leak Reveals Snapdragon X2, OLED Display, and New Jade Color

Microsoft’s next Surface Laptop has leaked ahead of its reported June 16 debut. Marketing images and specifications reveal Snapdragon X2 processors, a new OLED display option, a Jade color finish, and storage capacities reaching 2TB. The leak covers both 13.8-inch and 15-inch models and provides one of the clearest looks yet at the upcoming Surface Laptop 8.

The new models are aimed at consumers, while Intel-powered Surface Laptop 8 versions continue to serve business customers. According to the leaked material, Microsoft is moving the consumer lineup entirely to Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X2 platform, giving buyers a choice between the Snapdragon X2 Elite and Snapdragon X2 Plus processors.

From the outside, the Surface Laptop 8 looks very familiar. The leaked images show the same clean design language that has been part of the Surface Laptop family for several generations. Microsoft appears to be keeping the existing 13.8-inch and 15-inch sizes rather than introducing a new form factor.

Surface laptops have shipped with LCD screens for years, and the leaked information points to OLED becoming available for the first time. If accurate, buyers will finally have a display option that many premium laptop brands have already adopted across their flagship models.

Another change is the arrival of a new color called Jade. The light green finish joins Platinum, Gold/Dune, and Black. Microsoft has refreshed Surface colors from time to time, but Jade gives the lineup a noticeably different look compared to previous generations. Leaked marketing images show the color available across the new models.

Performance is expected to come from Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon X2 chips. The higher-end model features the 12-core Snapdragon X2 Elite, while another configuration is equipped with the 10-core Snapdragon X2 Plus. Both processors are listed with boost frequencies up to 4.0GHz and feature NPUs capable of delivering up to 80 TOPS.

Memory options reportedly reach up to 32GB of LPDDR5X RAM, while storage capacities extend to 2TB. Microsoft is reportedly keeping replaceable SSDs, something that has become increasingly uncommon among premium notebooks. For users who prefer upgrading storage later instead of buying the highest-capacity model on day one, that remains a welcome feature.

Battery capacities are listed at 54Wh for the 13.8-inch version and 66Wh for the 15-inch model. The leaked specifications point to up to 20 hours of video playback for the smaller model and up to 19 hours for the larger version.

One feature missing from the leaked material is Privacy Display technology. Microsoft offers the feature on the Intel-powered business variants of the Surface Laptop 8, but it does not appear anywhere in the specifications tied to the consumer Snapdragon models.

The Surface Laptop 8 leak follows similar leaks covering the Surface Pro 12 and Surface Laptop Ultra earlier this week. Together, they paint a clearer picture of Microsoft’s upcoming Surface lineup and suggest that several new devices are waiting in the wings ahead of the company’s next hardware announcement.
