Gigabyte Releases B850M AORUS Stealth Motherboard With Rear-Connector Design

The Gigabyte B850M AORUS Stealth marks the company’s first Micro-ATX motherboard with a rear-connector layout. Built for AMD’s AM5 platform, it supports Ryzen 7000, Ryzen 8000, and Ryzen 9000 Series processors while placing most internal connectors behind the motherboard tray. Gigabyte has not confirmed pricing or availability.

The rear-connector layout is the biggest change on this motherboard. Power cables, fan headers, USB headers, and front-panel connectors are all placed on the back of the board instead of the front. Compatible PC cases can hide almost every cable behind the motherboard tray, giving the inside of the PC a much cleaner look. Gigabyte first showed the Stealth design in 2022, and this is the first time it has reached the Micro-ATX form factor.

The motherboard is based on AMD’s B850 chipset and features the AM5 socket. It supports Ryzen 7000, Ryzen 8000, and Ryzen 9000 Series desktop processors. An 8+2+2 digital VRM with 60A DrMOS power stages provides stable power for gaming PCs as well as higher-end Ryzen processors.

There are four DDR5 memory slots with support for up to 256GB of RAM. Gigabyte rates memory speeds at up to DDR5-8200 when overclocked. Both AMD EXPO and Intel XMP memory profiles are supported, making memory setup quicker for users who want higher speeds.

For graphics cards, the motherboard features a reinforced PCIe 5.0 x16 slot. Storage options include one PCIe 5.0 M.2 slot, two PCIe 4.0 M.2 slots, and two SATA ports. RAID support is available for both NVMe and SATA storage drives.

Networking is well equipped. The board comes with Realtek Wi-Fi 7 supporting the 2.4GHz, 5GHz, and 6GHz bands, Bluetooth 5.4, and a Realtek 5GbE Ethernet controller. This gives users fast wired and wireless connectivity without adding separate network cards.

The rear I/O offers plenty of connectivity. It features USB Type-C, multiple USB Type-A ports, HDMI 2.1, DisplayPort 1.4, optical S/PDIF audio, and a 5GbE Ethernet port. Gigabyte has added dedicated Power, Reset, Clear CMOS, and Q-Flash Plus buttons for easier troubleshooting and BIOS updates. Internal headers provide a 20Gbps USB Type-C connection for compatible PC cases.

Gigabyte has added several features to make PC building easier. EZ-Latch Plus allows graphics cards to be removed without tools, while M.2 EZ-Latch Click removes the need for tiny SSD screws. WIFI EZ-Plug combines both Wi-Fi antenna connectors into a single adapter, making antenna installation much simpler.

Another useful feature is DriverBIOS. The motherboard stores the Wi-Fi driver in onboard firmware, allowing Windows users to connect to the internet immediately after installation without downloading the driver from another device.

Cooling features include large VRM heatsinks, M.2 Thermal Guard heatsinks, M.2 EZ-Flex, and Smart Fan 6. The BIOS adds X3D Turbo Mode, which Gigabyte claims can improve gaming performance by up to 18% on supported Ryzen X3D processors, although actual performance depends on the game and hardware configuration.

The B850M AORUS Stealth combines a compact Micro-ATX design with PCIe 5.0 expansion, DDR5 memory support, Wi-Fi 7, 5GbE networking, and Gigabyte’s rear-connector layout. It gives AM5 builders another option for creating clean-looking desktop PCs without moving to a larger ATX motherboard. Gigabyte has not announced when the motherboard will reach retailers or how much it will cost.
