We tested the ASUS ROG Strix G16 (2025) for a few days and it proved to be one of the most reliable options for civil engineering students who need a lot of power.

AutoCAD, Revit, and STAAD Pro were very smooth to run simultaneously, even when we had Chrome, Excel, and other tools open in the background. Rendering in Lumion or working with 3D models felt fast and responsive without any lag.

The numbers were equally strong when it came to gaming. Cyberpunk 2077 ran at around 90 FPS on 1080p Ultra, Starfield was close to 70 FPS on High, and Assassin’s Creed Mirage even ran past 100 FPS.

For lighter esports games like Valorant, we easily saw 200+ FPS, making the 165Hz screen feel incredibly smooth. This balance of professional performance and gaming power makes this a great dual-use laptop.

The 16-inch FHD+ 165Hz display impressed us more than we expected. It’s bright and fluid, and its anti-glare layer comes in handy when working in classrooms or near windows. Scrolling through long blueprints or rotating complex 3D structures felt easier on the eyes than on budget laptops.

Cooling is also a big achievement. ASUS has equipped this model with a tri-fan system, vapour chamber and liquid metal, and temperatures ranged between 72°C and 82°C during our usage. Even after hours of rendering and gaming, performance remained stable. Yes, the fans run and make a bit of noise, but they never reached distracting levels.

Battery life is good, but not exceptional. We managed about 6 hours of battery life when working on demanding projects or gaming for 1.5 to 2 hours, and doing lighter tasks like browsing, coding or working on reports. For civil engineering students, this is more suitable as a desktop alternative than an all-day portable machine.
